Energy Cycling Club, Ride Rules and Requirements

The purpose of riding in an organized group is to provide a planned opportunity for cyclists of comparable skill levels or aspirations to ride together, provide additional flexibility in selecting the course, distance, and start time with the additional safety that a well-organized group inherently generates. This comes from within the group and from the outside. When a group rides in an orderly fashion, people don’t get in each other’s way, and the organization of the formation itself discourages cars from attempting to cut in or pass. EVERYONE riding in a club event is expected to follow them. Anyone violating the rules, and compromising anyone’s safety, will be warned, and if their actions continue, will no longer be welcome to ride with the club. Failure to review the rules does not negate the responsibility to follow them.
The club welcomes riders of various levels of ability and skills and will try to accommodate everyone. New riders will need to identify themselves when new to group riding, are not sure of their abilities, or have any other concern prior to the beginning of any ride. Honest knowledge of your abilities and good communication comes into play for everyone.

6 Cardinal Rules of Cycling!

Rule 1: Follow the Law Your safety and image of bicyclists depend on you. You have the same rights and duties as drivers.
Rule 2: Be Predictable Make your intentions clear to everyone on the road. Signal turns, and check behind you well before turning or changing lanes.
Rule 3: Be Conspicuous Ride where people can see you and wear bright clothing. Use a front white light, red rear light and reflectors when visibility is poor.
Rule 4: Think and Look Ahead Anticipate what drivers, pedestrians, and other people on bikes will do next. Watch for turning vehicles.
Rule 5: Maintain Your Bike Check that your tires have sufficient air, brakes are working, chain runs smoothly, and quick release levers are closed.
Rule 6: Ride Ready Carry tools, supplies, water and food (if needed).

Energy Cycling Club Risk Management Plan

Cycling can be a dangerous activity. The Energy Cycling Club (ECC) has developed this Risk Management Plan to document how ECC rides are to be managed to reduce risks associated with cycling activities. These policies are to be practised by ECC members, and any permitted visiting riders as permitted by Ontario Cycling Association rules, during every ECC ride. All ECC members, and any permitted visiting riders, share the responsibility for making ECC rides as safe as possible.
Each ECC member shall receive a copy, electronic or otherwise of this Risk Management Plan. Any questions should be directed to the President of ECC. Email: president@energycyclingclub.com
